The Henry Royce Institute is seeking a new cohort of independent assessors to review applications for cutting edge materials research funding delivered through its Industrial Collaboration Programme (ICP).
Royce’s Industrial Collaboration Programme offers grant funding for research, development and innovation sprint projects that address key national materials challenges. The programme also facilitates collaboration between businesses and universities/research and technology organisations.
Royce is offering an exciting opportunity for independent academic and industrial experts to join the assessment team to review and select applications for funding delivered through the programme. The fifth Round of the funding competition will officially open for applications on Monday 17 March.
We particularly welcome applications from experts with experience against the following scope areas for this year’s competition:
- Sustainable materials innovation
- Extending Life of Major Assets through Materials Science
- Advanced Materials for next generation Quantum and Semiconductor Devices
- Energy Materials and Green Hydrogen Technologies
- Healthcare Innovation
Assessors will be expected to complete their scoring between Wednesday 21 May and Sunday 8 June following the close of the competition on 12 May. Royce will conduct initial checks and distribute up to 15 proposals to each assessor following the close of the competition.
About the review process
The review process, aligned with UKRI procedures, is straightforward and will be completed via our secure applications portal, Flexigrant. Detailed guidance on assessment practice and criteria will be provided. In addition to gaining a deeper understanding of UK grant applications, review processes and of course supporting UK innovation, assessors who are not already funded by Royce can claim a fee of £25 per application. We do not anticipate an application to take longer than one hour to assess.
If you are interested in supporting this activity or can recommend other colleagues who may be suitable, please complete or forward this expression of interest form by Friday 14th March. The form requires you to state which overarching theme(s) your research and expertise is best suited to assess. To avoid any conflicts of interest, assessors who are closely associated with or involved in a submission will not be included in the review process for that application.
