Royce Outreach Team at British Science Week

Last week, the Royce outreach team participated in British Science Week at the Manchester Museum.

Royce’s outreach activities aim to inspire the next generation of materials scientists and engineers, engaging a range of age groups to demonstrate exciting study and career prospects.

Engaging with the public, schools and future STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) students, Royce stages unique interactive learning experiences at national outreach events and festivals, including New Scientist Live and Bluedot Festival.

The event at Manchester Museum showcased 40 stands in total, covering the huge range of fantastic science and research activities at the University of Manchester, home to the Royce Hub.

The Royce stand showcased a diverse range of materials, which visitors were fascinated to observe under microscopes. The samples included materials from the natural world and everyday household items through to advanced materials such as graphene, nuclear components, and metals designed for demanding environments. These materials are an integral part of Research Area activities both at the Hub and across Royce partners.

Other Royce-affiliated projects in attendance were Discover Materials and the NAME Programme Grant.

Over the two days Royce took part, over a thousand pupils from 31 schools across Greater Manchester attended, in addition to members of the public.
