Bringing scientists and academia together from across the world.

The 30th International Conference on Amorphous and Nanoscale Semiconductors (ICANS30) that takes place in Manchester, UK, from the 4th – 8th August 2024.

The conference returns to the UK for the fourth time in its history, and in the year marking the 200th anniversary of The University of Manchester.

Attendees will experience an exciting scientific and cultural programme that blends the scientific history and heritage of the conference and its host Manchester with the leading areas of research within the scientific programme. The ICANS30 programme is strengthened by the UK EPSRC Materials for Network (M4QN) and the Henry Royce Institute Atoms to Devices (A2D) Research Theme who join ICAN for what is sure to be a memorable conference.

About the conference

Since its inception in Prague in 1965, ICANS has a rich history of uniting scientists and academia every two years, fostering collaboration and advancing scientific knowledge. Join us in Manchester as we continue this tradition of inspiration, connection, and groundbreaking discoveries. Experience the vibrant city and immerse yourself in an exceptional scientific gathering.

Engaging sessions with world-class speakers

The exciting scientific programme – co-convened with the Henry Royce Institute’s Atoms to Devices Research Area and the UK EPSRC Materials for Quantum Network – will cover subjects from fundamental and applied physics, chemistry, and materials science. Parallel symposia with invited talks, and oral and poster presentations will cover a range of topics in the areas of materials discovery, characterisation, modelling and simulation.

The topics covered by the conference have continued to evolve to reflect the cutting edge of the research landscape. To reflect the significant international interest in quantum technologies ICANS30 welcomes research directed towards these applications within the topics covered. ICANS30 will run three parallel symposia during the conference with the entire conference coming together for the Mott Lecture and Plenary talks. Each symposium will run a programme based around stimulating topics. The conference will also include a tutorial series on the Sunday (4th August).
