In this session, Dr Matthew Allinson, an associate editor at Nature Reviews Clean Technology, will talk about how to publish articles with journals in the Nature Portfolio, with a focus on engineering and sustainability research.

The Materials and Manufacturing Showcase will showcase the impact of £1.75 billion investment in materials and manufacturing, offering exclusive access to groundbreaking innovations and high-growth investment opportunities.

This course will provide an introduction to advanced electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) technique in alloy imaging and characterisation. It will also provide an overview of the state-of-the-art facilities hosted by Royce at The University of Manchester, and other kit located with Royce partners. Routes to accessing Royce EBSD facilities will also be highlighted.

This workshop will introduce quenching dilatometry for experimental work and data analysis in alloys. The content will explore the use of dilatometry to assess phase transformations in ferritic steels and other alloys, and the transformations seen during simulation of welding and additive manufacturing.

This workshop is open to beginners with no prior knowledge of XPS data analysis. Once completed attendees will be able to independently analyse their own XPS data. It is particularly useful to those researching materials such as; thin films, catalysts, batteries, semiconductors and so on.

This course focuses on extrusion-based bioprinting techniques relevant to healthcare research, tissue engineering and regenerative medicine (TERM). Participants will explore the fundamentals of the technology and hear from experts on the opportunities and challenges of translating 3D bioprinting into real-life medical applications.

On the 17-20 March 2025, Cranfield University will be hosting a “Hydrogen Material Challenges” short course, supported by the Henry Royce Institute. This course will focus on providing delegates with both practical and experimental knowledge on the fundamental material challenges faced by all components in the hydrogen supply chain: production, storage and distribution, and use.

This course will introduce participants to the fundamentals of vacuum technologies and develop knowledge on essential concepts in thin film deposition techniques. It will provide a foundation in microfabrication methods, such as photolithography and ion milling, essential for advanced research and thin film device manufacturing.

The second edition of “Physics of Life 2025” will take place in Harrogate 24-27 March 2025 to represent and draw together the diverse UK biological physics community.

This workshop aims to bring together XPS users to learn how to begin analysing XPS data. Through the demonstration of basic analysis principles, working with training datasets, and user-submitted examples, the content will help users of national XPS facilities develop understanding of best practice approaches to exploring their own data.
