This NTPMI workshop for Research Technical Professionals will consider the various challenges in handling data in materials science, such as: i) specification of metadata; ii) methods of compression or down-sampling; iii) data storage and retention practices; iv) sharing and tools for access. This course will provide an introduction to energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) analysis for alloys at the Royce Hub Building in Manchester.

The content will introduce the concepts for the generation of X-rays for alloy analysis and EDS techniques on bulk samples. Participants will cover experimental produres, quantification methods, sample preparation and analysis artefacts. The course aims to develop understanding and guidance for practical experimentation to ensure the collection of high-quality EDS data.
