Phononics 2023 is the sixth conference dedicated to analysis and manipulation of phonons (vibrations in solids), connecting researchers interested in phononic crystals, acoustic, elastic, nanophononic, and thermal metamaterials, metasurfaces, wave propagation in periodic structures, nano-scale phonon transport, optomechanics and phonon coupling.

The UK FIB & Prep User Group serves as an open platform for users of FIB systems and all microscopy-related specimen preparation techniques The group provides a platform for members to share advancements, discuss best practices, present both experimental and theoretical findings, exchange tips for preparing challenging materials, analyse complex 2D and 3D datasets, and stay updated on the latest developments in instrumentation and techniques.
This workshop will engage participants in designing and developing outreach activities focused on atomic force microscopes (AFMs). It aims to inspire new materials science communicators, diversify existing outreach in the field, and help audiences explore materials science.
The content will include presentations by leaders in outreach and experts in materials characterization. Participants will be challenged to build AFMs for outreach use and develop supporting activities to convey scientific techniques and knowledge to diverse audiences.
