NuFor is the dedicated forum aimed at bringing together academia, industry and government, to share developments, successes and highlights in the field of Nuclear Forensics with a wider, multidisciplinary audience. This annual conference provides a collaborative space for international discussion and alliance in this unique field.
This Stand Out Skills webinar delves into the obstacles faced when transitioning from academia to industry, highlighting how project management skills are vital for to making this transition as smooth as possible. Dr. Valentina Guerra will explore in her talk how these skills help organise research into actionable industry projects, enhance team collaboration, and boost employability.
This course will introduce facilities and equipment in support of the material and mechanical evaluation of polymers and other biomaterials. It will include overviews of equipment from TA Instruments and explore the techniques used to collect and characterise biomaterial data. Case studies will showcase research conducted with the kit and highlight areas of capability within Royce’s facilities. Participants will be able to view equipment and gain basic demonstrations of it in action, as well as learn how to use TRIOS software to conduct analysis of their own data.
This course will provide an introduction to the use of spectroscopy in research into sustainable materials and plastics recycling. The content will explore currently available equipment, commonly used techniques, and practical approaches for use. It will cover the capabilities of Horiba’s spectroscopy instruments and how to best design experiments that answer key research and business questions. Research case studies will demonstrate recent examples of successful spectroscopy use in the identification and characterisation of materials. The course will also explore routes through which students, researchers, industry scientists and small businesses can access relevant equipment through Royce Access Schemes.
The Henry Royce Institute at the University of Manchester is hosting a full-day HAXPES showcase aimed at boosting industry engagement. Part of the institute’s mission is to provide access to the latest facilities and capability to UK companies, thereby catalysing industrial collaboration and exploitation of materials research.
To solve the grand challenges our society faces, we need to think differently. This is particularly true in established industries that produce the materials that form the basis of our economy – i.e. the Foundation Industries1. Inter-disciplinary collaboration between students and researchers will open up the possibility of innovative approaches to climate change and other global problems.
