Royce at Cambridge: Automated High-throughput Laboratory for Structural Materials in Extreme Environments
25 February 2025
3:45 pm - 4:45 pm
Join Royce at the University of Cambridge for this talk from Prof. Todd Hufnagel; Hopkins Extreme Materials Institute, Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, MD. In this talk, Prof. Hunagel will discuss The AI for Materials Design Laboratory (AIMD-L) at Johns Hopkins University's design and implementation, with particular emphasis on the unique laser microflyer impact and x-ray characterisation instruments, along with the data architecture and handling that provides the unifying backbone for lab operations and its integration with AI/ML models for materials exploration.
NTPMI Workshop: Active EM Facilities and Best Practice for Nuclear Materials
04 March 2025
All Day
As part of the National Technical Platform for Materials Innovation (NTPMI), UK National Nuclear Laboratory (UKNNL) will lead a technical workshop on Electron Microscopy Characterisation of Active Nuclear Materials and deliver an introduction to the UK Nuclear Industry. The event will take place at the Royce Hub Building in Manchester, with the opportunity for participants to join remotely in a hybrid format.
Royce Training: Introduction to Quenching Dilatometry for Alloys
06 March 2025
9:30 am - 4:00 pm
This workshop will introduce quenching dilatometry for experimental work and data analysis in alloys. The content will explore the use of dilatometry to assess phase transformations in ferritic steels and other alloys, and the transformations seen during simulation of welding and additive manufacturing.
X-Ray Photoemission Spectroscopy (XPS) Data Processing Workshop
07 March 2025
9:45 am - 4:30 pm
This workshop is open to beginners with no prior knowledge of XPS data analysis. Once completed attendees will be able to independently analyse their own XPS data. It is particularly useful to those researching materials such as; thin films, catalysts, batteries, semiconductors and so on.
Royce Training: Biofabrication for Healthcare Research and Innovation
12 March 2025 - 14 March 2025
All Day
This course focuses on extrusion-based bioprinting techniques relevant to healthcare research, tissue engineering and regenerative medicine (TERM). Participants will explore the fundamentals of the technology and hear from experts on the opportunities and challenges of translating 3D bioprinting into real-life medical applications.
Royce at Cranfield: Hydrogen Material Challenges Short Course
17 March 2025 - 20 March 2025
All Day
On the 17-20 March 2025, Cranfield University will be hosting a “Hydrogen Material Challenges” short course, supported by the Henry Royce Institute. This course will focus on providing delegates with both practical and experimental knowledge on the fundamental material challenges faced by all components in the hydrogen supply chain: production, storage and distribution, and use.
Royce Training: Thin-Film Device Manufacturing
18 March 2025 - 20 March 2025
All Day
This course will introduce participants to the fundamentals of vacuum technologies and develop knowledge on essential concepts in thin film deposition techniques. It will provide a foundation in microfabrication methods, such as photolithography and ion milling, essential for advanced research and thin film device manufacturing.
Physics of Life 2025
24 March 2025 - 25 March 2025
All Day
The second edition of “Physics of Life 2025” will take place in Harrogate 24-27 March 2025 to represent and draw together the diverse UK biological physics community.
Royce Training: Analysing your XPS data in collaboration with Harwell
26 March 2025 - 27 March 2025
All Day
This workshop aims to bring together XPS users to learn how to begin analysing XPS data. Through the demonstration of basic analysis principles, working with training datasets, and user-submitted examples, the content will help users of national XPS facilities develop understanding of best practice approaches to exploring their own data.
Big Data Handling for RTPs: Best practice workshop
31 March 2025 - 01 April 2025
All Day
Royce is hosting a workshop aimed at Research Technical Professionals (RTPs), or researchers whose role involves RTP responsibilities, in which we will consider the various challenges in handling data in materials science, such as: i) specification of metadata; ii) methods of compression or down-sampling; iii) data storage and retention practices; iv) sharing and tools for access. The idea is to gather perspectives on the above aspects to instigate discussions around working methods and best practices.
