Detailed Description

The LFA 467 measures the thermal diffusivity of thin samples across samples from -100°C to 1250°C across two temperature ranges, low (-100°C – 500°C) and high (30°C – 1250°C). This allows for the determination of specific heat capacity and thermal conductivity over the whole temperature gradient.

The thin (<2.5mm) sample is suspended with a flash source (xenon lamp) at the bottom and the detector (MCT) on top. The light is flashed with accordance to predetermined parameters before the detector measures the thermal signal on the other side of the sample.

The high temperature machine can accommodate up to 4 samples with a nitrogen atmosphere or under vacuum. The low temperature machine can hold up to 16 samples under a nitrogen atmosphere. The technique works with any solid material, including composites up to 3 layers thick.

Uses/Applications

Can be used to measure the thermal diffusivity, specific heat and thermal conductivity of metals, polymers, composites, and ceramics. Any solid samples will work with this technique.
