Professor Graham Wren OBE, FRSE, FREng, FIET, FIMechE, FIoD

Graham is Senior Executive and Special Advisor to the Principal of the University of Strathclyde. His role supports the Principal, the University’s industry partners and academic teams. During his time at Strathclyde with his team he has overseen several ambitious projects in areas as diverse as renewable energy, aerospace, nuclear and pharmaceutical manufacturing.
He was the initial Project Director for the National Manufacturing Institute Scotland (NMIS) along with the Weir Advanced Research Centre, Advanced Nuclear Research Centre, Advanced Forming Research Centre, Centre for Manufacturing And Crystallisation, Medicine Manufacturing Innovation Centre and others. These projects have grown to collectively raise over £1Bn to support research with industry and attract £M investments from across the globe into the UK.
Graham sits on over 10 Research Centre Boards and University Executive Committees. He has over 40 years of business and public sector experience, most of which has been spent in advanced technology and science areas – particularly in translating science into impact. He has worked with many international companies assisting them in business strategy and international governments.
Graham has sat on numerous committees (including the Science Advisory Committee), given evidence to UK Parliamentary Select Committees and represented the UK as a nominated expert to the OECD. He has also chaired international reviews.
He holds a Chair at the University of Technology in Sydney (UTS) and is a Distinguished Vice Chancellor’s Fellow at the University of New South Wales (UNSW).
Honours and Awards include – Officer of the Order of the British Empire, OBE; Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, FREng; Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh, FRSE; the John Williams Research Medal (University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne) and a Strathclyde Medal (University of Strathclyde). He was also elected to the Freedom of the Worshipful Company of Engineers and the Freedom of the City of London in 2023.
He is a Fellow of the Institute of Engineering and Technology: FIET; FCIM; Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers: FIMechE and a Fellow of the Institute of Directors: FIoD. He is a Chartered Engineer and Chartered Director.
