The Henry Royce Institute in collaboration with the Discover Materials Network* and the Institute of Physics (East Midland) will exhibit at this year’s New Scientist Live demonstrating the importance of surface and mechanical properties of materials.
Visit our stand to learn how important both surface properties and internal structure of a material are to its performance. You can have a go at trying to wet our Lotus leaf and try to burst a balloon on a bed of nails to investigate water-repellent surfaces and how the internal structure of chocolate bars affects its mechanical properties then use our tensile tester to experience how much force is required to break polymeric materials.
