Dr James Wade-Zhu
Research Area Lead: Nuclear Materials
Dr James Wade-Zhu is the Research Area Lead for the Royce Nuclear Research Area.
James is currently the non-metallics lead at UK Atomic Energy Authority, joining the organisation in 2022. James was previously a EUROfusion Fellow at the University of Birmingham and a Research Associate in the Nuclear Graphite Research Group at the University of Manchester. James completed his BSc and PhD at Loughborough University and his MSc at Swansea University.
His research interests are in the manufacture of advanced nuclear ceramics and ceramic composites and the microstructural mechanisms that govern their mechanical, thermal, and thermomechanical performance before and after irradiation.
James is a Member of the IOM3 and an Associate Fellow of the HEA and sits on the Midlands Advanced Ceramics advisory board and is the UK representative for the International Energy Agency’s SiC/SiC composite working group.
