The High Commissioner of Singapore to the UK, H.E. Ng Teck Hean visited the Royce Hub to see its cutting-edge equipment and hear about Royce research collaborations. High Commissioner Ng represents the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Government of Singapore, responsible for conducting and managing diplomatic relations between Singapore and other countries and regions.
The visit was part of the High Commissioner’s trip to Manchester to learn about the Institute, its cutting-edge advanced materials research and the facilities that make this possible, as well as its ecosystem partnering research and industry. The High Commissioner and his team also took a tour of the Graphic Engineering Innovation Centre (GEIC).
The High Commissioner, accompanied by First Secretary Caitlin Chay and Second Secretary Basil Ting, met with Royce Chief Scientist Professor Philip Withers and Royce Head of Research and Royce Chief Technology Officer Professor Tony Horner, who outlined Royce’s mission and project activities.
The High Commissioner and colleagues were then taken on a tour of the Ground Floor heavy duty laboratory focussed on the Advanced Metals Processing theme, housing the Joining & Cladding Facility and the Thermomechanical Processing Facility; Floor 3 which houses activity related to the Biomedical Materials research area with a focus on Digital Fabrication, where 3D bio-printing offers controlled placement of both biological and synthetic materials and Floor 6 which houses the Sustainable Materials Innovation Hub where research is aiming to help improve the understanding, use, and consumption of plastics.
