Marie O’Brien
Histologist in Materials
Marie is a histologist with over 15 years’ experience. She received a BSc in Forensic and Biomolecular Science from Liverpool John Moores University in 2004. As a histologist Marie worked in the Veterinary Pathology Department at Liverpool University for 8 years before moving to the University of Manchester and setting up a histology facility for the School of Materials. Marie became a Registered Scientist with the Institute of Science and Technology in 2016 and has won various awards for her work.
The histology facility is capable of processing, sectioning and staining a variety of different materials from electrospun polymer scaffolds to hydrogels and soft tissues to bone samples.
